Research Description:

Molecular and Cellular Dysregulation in Pulmonary Fibrosis

Clinical and basic research focuses on molecular and cellular dysregulation in defined subpopulations with pulmonary fibrosis (i.e., idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis, familial pulmonary fibrosis, pulmonary fibrosis associated with rheumatoid arthritis). Basic research focuses on gene transcription in alveolar macrophages, pathways within fibroblast subsets contributing to cell proliferation and extracellular matrix protein synthesis, and the alveolar microenvironment in pulmonary fibrosis. Clinical research focuses on defining the natural history of disease. Findings of basic and clinical research will be correlated to identify markers of adverse clinical outcome and, thus, potential therapeutic targets in pulmonary fibrosis.
