Case 1: (Back
to Indications for Cardiovascular MRI)
The Three Chamber View (Parasternal Long Axis) in a normal
volunteer
Double oblique imaging plane: Anterior chest wall on image
left, back toward lower right, head toward upper right.
This view cuts through the left atrium, left ventricle, and
ascending aorta thus providing an overview of left ventricular
inflow, left ventricular function, and left ventricular outflow.
Diseases involving the left anterior descending coronary artery,
the mitral valve, or the aortic valve are well seen from this
orientation. Left atrial size and aortic root diameter are
commonly measured in this view.
| Structures:
LV = left ventricle
LA = left atrium (note mitral valve leaflets between
LA and LV)
RV = right ventricle
CW = chest wall
Ao = ascending aorta (note aortic valve leaflets between
LV and Ao)
DAo = descending aorta |
