Case 8: High Resolution Black Blood Image of Aortic Valve

case-8-animation
Research pulse sequences can now provide highly detailed views of the heart and blood vessel walls. At left is a short axis view through the aortic valve in a normal subject. This kind of image quality rivals that attainable by transesophageal echocardiograpy. Aortic valve leaflets are so thin that the appear translucent and thus used to be difficult to detect by MRI.
