Patient self-referral
The Laboratory is currently recruiting patients with the following characteristics:
- Documented myocardial infarction (recent or chronic)
- Known or suspected coronary artery disease with a recommendation for stress testing
- Carotid artery disease with a recommendation for surgery (carotid endarterectomy)
- Carotid or peripheral vascular disease with a recommendation for angioplasty
- Patients treated with anthracycline chemotherapy (doxorubicin, epirubicin) for chemotherapy particularly with a history of abnormal heart function

In general, we will want to coordinate your imaging with your physician. It may also be necessary for you to give consent to send copies of medical records to the National Institutes of Health.
On a limited basis, the Laboratory also recruits normal subjects with the following characteristics:
- No history of heart disease
- No history of hypertension (high blood pressure)
- Not taking cardiac active medications (including blood pressure medications)
- Willing to have an intravenous catheter (IV) and administration of gadolinium contrast.
- No contraindications
Normal subjects are reimbursed for participating in research studies with a small monetary amount approved by the Institutional Review Board for a given research protocol.
All normal subject volunteers for cardiac must undergo a screening process per IRB regulations. For further information regarding normal subject volunteering, please contact Pamela Vincent, Cardiac MRI Technologist, at (301) 496-0248 or via email.
