What services are available to me?

There is no charge for services at the NIH.

Coronary artery angioplasty and stenting

For patients with symptoms of coronary artery disease (blocked arteries to the heart), these procedures are conducted at the NIH Clinical Center.  In selected patients, the procedures are conducted at the NIH Heart Center in Suburban Hospital

Advanced cardiovascular disease for consideration for experimental treatment with growth factors or stem cells.

Peripheral artery angioplasty and stenting

For patients with symptoms of peripheral artery disease (blocked arteries outside the heart, especially to the legs), these procedures are conducted at the NIH Clinical Center.l

Clinical consultation for cardiovascular disease, especially

Angina pectoris or chest pain due to blocked arteries to the heart (coronary artery disease).

Intermittent claudication, or muscular leg pain due to blocked arteries to the legs.

Uncontrolled hypertension due to blocked arteries to the kidneys

Magnetic resonance imaging

Magnetic Resonance Angiography to assess blocked arteries to the legs or kidneys.

MRI of the heart is provided by our close colleague Dr. Andrew Arai, MD in the Laboratory of Cardiac Energetics.

• Gene transfer to improve leg blood flow in patients with intermittent claudication.
• Real-time MRI-guided Peripheral Angioplasty

• Catheter Based Treatment of Cardiovascular Disease
