Transmyocardial Laser Revascularization

One method of treating patients with severe angina due to diffuse coronary disease is transmyocardial laser revascularization (TMR). As depicted above a carbon dioxide laser is used to create a channel through the heart muscle that is underperfused. Over time this stimulates angiogenesis and these new vessels provide better blood flow to the heart.
