Case 9: High Resolution Black Blood Image of Congenital Malformed Aortic Valve (Back to Indications for Cardiovascular MRI)

In contrast to the normal symmetric trileaflet aortic valve, this patient has a markedly asymmetric aortic valve.

Abbreviations:

AV = Aortic valve (closed in diastole the leaflets appear like a peace sign)
DAo = descending aorta
CW = chest wall
RA = right atrium
RV = right ventricle
LA = left atrium
L = lung
Li = liver
V = vertebral body
