Welcome to NHLBI Summer Students
May, 2009
To All National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute (NHLBI) Summer
Research Students:
On behalf of the NHLBI's Division of Intramural Research, we would
like to take this opportunity to welcome you to the NHLBI. We hope
that your time spent with us in a research laboratory will increase
your interest in biomedical research and encourage you to continue
your pursuit of a career in the biomedical sciences.
In addition to your time in the laboratory, the NHLBI Office of
Education has planned other activities to enhance your summer experience
on the NIH campus. All NHLBI summer students are invited to a series
of Pizza lunches sponsored by the Office of Education. These lunches
will provide an opportunity for summer students to meet each other
and to become familiar with the spectrum of research, both clinical
and scientific, going on in the intramural program of NHLBI. The
complete schedule is available by clicking here:
http://dir.nhlbi.nih.gov/oe/summerlec.asp.
Other campus activities are sponsored by the NIH Office of Education.
The complete calendar is located on the NIH Office of Intramural
Training and Education
Summer Handbook Web Site at:
http://www.training.nih.gov/student/common/summer-handbook.pdf
This web site also contains important information about NIH and
the summer program.
A special feature of the Summer Program is Poster Day, where you
will be able to share your research results. It is scheduled for
Thursday, August 7 in Natcher. You are encouraged to take advantage of these
opportunities to present your research findings to the NIH scientific
communities.
The Office of Education (OE) at NHLBI is especially interested
in making your experience as profitable as possible. The OE can
provide information about scientific careers, especially emphasizing
the new Graduate Program Partnerships that let you do a Ph.D. here
on the NIH campus. The web site at http://dir.nhlbi.nih.gov/oe/index.asp
gives you an overview of the services that are available, and has
links to all of the research and training opportunities at NIH.
It includes a special link to provide information for summer students
at: http://dir.nhlbi.nih.gov/oe/summerinfo.asp.
This page also has links to the vast cultural and recreational resources
of the Washington Metropolitan area. We hope you find it useful.
We invite you to visit the Office of Education located in Building
10, Room 2N242 to discuss the summer program and how we can help
you achieve your goals.
We look forward to meeting you soon. Please do not hesitate to
contact the Office of Education at if you need any assistance during
your stay here.
Sincerely yours,
