Connexin Subtype Distribution

Demonstration of Cx45 knockout mouse embryos (E9.5) with LacZ expression driven by the Cx45 promoter in place of endogenous Cx45 expression.

Demonstration of Cx45 knockout mouse embryos (E9.5) with LacZ expression driven by the Cx45 promoter in place of endogenous Cx45 expression. A) Wild-type B-E) Heterozygous Cx45 knockout, F) Homozygous Cx45 knockout.

NB: Apparent gene dosing of LacZ expression, with heterozygous Cx45 knockout embryos displaying lighter stain than the homozygous embryo. Also note that LacZ expression appears stronger in the outflow region of the heart than the presumptive left ventricle

Scale bars represent 250 mm. (Image provided by Richard Francis)

Views of the dissected Heart tube from Cx45 knockout mouse embryos (E9.5) with LacZ expression driven by the Cx45 promoter in place of endogenous Cx45 expression.

Figure 1 demonstrates heart tube and attached thoracic segment from wild type (1A), Heterozygous Cx45 knockout (1B 1C), and Homozygous Cx45 knockout (1D) embryos.

Figure 2 Magnified views of heart tubes shown in figure 1. 2A, 2C front and rear view of the heart tube shown in 1C (heterozygous Cx45 knockout). 2B, 2D front and rear view of the heart tube shown in 1D (homozygous Cx45 knockout).

NB: Stronger LacZ expression in outflow tract and the heart tube segment connecting the presumptive left ventricle and the presumptive left atrium.

Scale bars represent 250 mm. (Image provided by Richard Francis)
