Levels of intracellular hydrogen peroxide as assesed by DCF fluorescence in vascular smooth muscle cells A) before or B) 5 minutes after platelet derived growth factor (PDGF) stimulation. This increase in hydrogen peroxide appears important in downstream signal transduction (see Sundaresan et al., Science, 270:296-299, 1995).
