Laboratory of Developmental Biology (LDB)
Cecilia Lo, PhD, Principal Investigator
Welcome to the Laboratory of Developmental Biology. This laboratory
is part of the Division of Intramural Research program
of the National Heart, Lung,
and Blood Institute at the National
Institutes of Health. The Chief of the Laboratory is Dr. Cecilia
Lo. The long term mission of the Laboratory is to elucidate the
complex etiology of congenital cardiovascular diseases. The Laboratory
is presently comprised of three sections: Congenital
Heart Disease Section, Developmental Glycobiology
Section , and Stem Cell and Neuro-Vascular Patterning
Section. Vigorous research programs in these three groups use
mouse, zebrafish and frog embryo models to elucidate the developmental
regulation of embryonic development and patterning of the cardiovascular
and vascular systems. These studies involve the use of genetically
engineered and chemically mutagenized animal models together with
state of the art genomic, proteomic and cutting edge real time imaging
technology to elucidate the cell and molecular mechanisms of cardiovascular/vascular
development and disease.
