Connexin43 (Cx43a1) gap junction has been shown to be expressed abundantly in cardiac neural crest cells and to play an important role in mediating neural crest cell migration. My current work is focused on the essential role for Cx43a1 in modulating integrin-mediated cell migration by utilizing mouse models with loss or overexpression of Cx43a1 in neural crest cells.
