Laboratory of Molecular Biophysics (LMB)
Nico Tjandra, PhD, Principal Investigator
The mission of the Laboratory of Molecular Biophysics is to understand the underlying mechanisms of biological function by integrating structural and dynamic biophysical approaches spanning a wide range of time, length, and complexity scales.
The laboratory is comprised of four groups: Nico Tjandra employs nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) to determine atomic-level structure and interactions of biomolecules under physiological conditions. Jay Knutson develops optical and fluorescence techniques to determine protein structure and activity in vitro and in vivo. Jennifer Lee exploits time-resolved laser spectroscopy to measure conformation and dynamics of soluble and membrane proteins. Keir Neuman harnesses single-molecule manipulation and visualization techniques to measure biomolecular conformation and motion.
